Where Would You Go in the Most Romantic City in the World?

While I was looking through one of the blog sites on France that I am a fan of, An American in Paris is what it’s called, there was a posting about places you should visit if you ever go to the city. The author seemed to have a major preference for the Arc de Triomphe, and in response I said, “Are you kidding?”

At that moment the thought came into my head, out of all the beautiful sights I saw in my short time in Paris, what was my favorite?

Well from my own experience, I would say the Arc de Triomphe is very pretty — if you’re looking from a distance. But if you’re talking about trying to get close up, you might run the risk of getting hit by a car on the Champs Elysees! The traffic around the Arc, which goes in a circle around the landmark makes it difficult to get too excited about. The traffic in Paris in general is a bit reckless actually.

But really, what is my favorite?

Well, Notre Dame really was beautiful, even if it was a little creepy looking at night and sans good ‘ol Quasi…

The Pantheon was nice, but compared to every other landmark made with the purpose to awe, it’s actually on the yawn-worthy side…

Le Stade de France was HUGE, but it wasn’t all that as I would like to say, and the Louvre is probably one of the world’s nicest art museums, but I can go to art museum in my home of Chicago actually…and it’s just as nice sometimes…

So if I had to choose, it would probably be a tie between the obvious: The Eiffel Tower; and the random: The Basilica du Sacre-Coeur (a church).

Everyone loves the Eiffel Tower. Why you ask? Well, it looks crazy beautiful at night, and let’s not even talk about what it look like around Christmas time with all the lights on it! (Drooling in the thought….) Plus, you can ride it to the top! So that wins by default, but the Basilica du Sacre-Coeur is also a favorite of mine.

From it’s dramatic rows of steps, to its gorgeous sculptures of Joan of Arc (Girl power!!), its colorful mosaic andi ts breathtaking view of Paris, the Basilica du Sacre-Coeur is one of those slept-on treasures that need to be seen to be understood. The Eiffel Tower will only be so cool for so long…

So what’s your favorite??
